“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!’ Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it as it is written.” John 12:13-14 NIV
This was the triumphal entrance , and the waving of the palm branches signified the victory. Jesus came in on a young donkey that had never been ridden before, representing the following characteristics: service, suffering, peace, and humility. The story was all there for everyone to see, but the masses misunderstood when events didn’t take place that they expected. The root meaning of “Hosanna” actually means “God saves us” as seen in Psalms 118:25. Jesus is our Savior, and his promise is to give us victory after victory because of His victory which he bore on the cross. He doesn’t promise that we won’t struggle or suffer, but He promises that we will overcome.
